Nameserver issues at Metanet.ch

We close this third-party incident from our side, as we expect no further negative impact on mailflow.

According to the Metanet status update, the root cause of the outage was a problem with datacenter cooling which impacted their hardware.

According to Metanet, the incident has been resolved and is under monitoring. Nameservers should be reachable again.

Provider Metanet.ch is having network issues since ca 06:00 UTC on 2025-02-05, which also affects customer nameservers.

The effect on e-mail is that, under certain conditions, messages can not be sent or otherwise processed since it can not been determined whether the domain “exists” (in DNS).

We see a number of both customer and third-party domains affected. Since we treat DNS errors as temporary errors (4xx error codes), mail should not be lost on our side but some mail will certainly be delayed. Third party systems may behave differently.
